Gl. Rye Mill is a Dutch gallery mill which in 1989 was acquired by a Society of local people, who wanted to preserve the buildings for future generations. That set in motion a series of activities based around the windmill and today it has become a local cultural history museum.

From Gl. Rye Mill there is a marvellous view over preserved heathy hills and Denmark’s third largest lake, Mossø.
There are many chances for walks and cycle trips in the area around Gl. Rye. There are, for example footpaths to Galgebakken and to Klostermølle on the river Gudenå.
As from June 1 2008, the Museum at Gl. Rye Mill has merged with Skanderborg Museum, a museum for the cultural history of Skanderborg Kommune.
Skanderborg Museum has these branches: The Freshwater Museum, the Museum of Occupation in Skanderborg, the Museum at Gl. Rye Mill, the Museum of Øm Abbey, and the main branch at Adelgade 5, Skanderborg.
